Al-Hamli meets the United Nations delegation for DRR.

The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Ibrahim Al-Hamli, met today with the Program Officer at the UNDRR, Saira Ahmed, and her accompanying delegation, who is currently visiting Sana’a.

In the meeting,attended by the head of the Planning and Evaluation Department at SCMCHA, Ali Al-Kahlani, and the head of Civil Defense Authority, Major General Ibrahim Al-Muayyad, the Secretary-General of SCMCHA reviewed the human and material losses and damage to the infrastructure resulting from the floods in a number of governorates.

He pointed out the importance of responding to disasters by implementing development projects and addressing the damage to the governorates, collapses in main roads, and other losses to citizens’ property and homes.

Al-Hamli emphsized the importance of rehabilitating areas exposed to disasters, such as floods or rockslides, by implementing interventions that prevent or limit their occurrence, as well as restoring damaged homes, especially historical cities such as old Sanaa.

He called on the delegation to visit a number of cities and governorates to see the damage caused by the floods, especially ancient cities , pointing out the importance of supporting the Civil Defense Department with the necessary equipment to carry out its duty in the required manner in preserving lives and public property.

For her part, the UN official confirmed that her visit aims to review the damage and work to implement interventions in the development aspect to reduce disasters.

The meeting was attended by the General Director of Emergencies and Displacement, Naji Azman, Director of Projects, Jamal Barih, Director of UN organizations, Turki Jamil, Deputy Director of the OCHA Office in Yemen, Rosaria, and the Emergency Response Officer at the United Nations Population Fund in Yemen, Ali Saeed.
