Tawoos and Abbad open alternative energy project at Al Thawra Hospital in Sana’a at a cost of $540,000.

Mayor of the capital, Hammoud Abbad, and Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdulmohsen Tawoos, inaugurated today a solar and diesel energy system project at the Al-Thawra Model Hospital Authority in the Municipality, at a cost of $540 thousand.

Abbad and Tawoos, along with the head of the authority, Dr. Abdul-Malik Jahaf, and the director of the health office in the secretariat, Dr. Mutahar Al-Maroni, were briefed on the components of the alternative energy project, which included one thousand and twenty panels with a capacity of 408 kilowatts, funded by the World Bank through the United Nations Office for Project Services “UNEPS”.

In the opening, the Mayor of the Capital praised the efforts of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs and the support of the United Nations Office for Project Services, in implementing this important project at Al-Thawra Hospital, especially in light of the continued siege and detention of oil derivatives ships.

He praised the level of effective partnership with the Council and UNEPS, which pushes towards achieving more service projects, especially in the health field and providing alternative energy for hospitals, enabling them to continue providing medical services to citizens.

For his part, Tawoos stressed the importance of the project in reducing the cost of providing electrical energy borne by the administration of Al-Thawra Hospital, in order to ensure the continuation of its services.

UNEPS called for the continuation of the interventions in the third and fourth phases in the Al-Thawra Hospital Authority, as there is an intervention of about two million dollars in the third phase… indicating that the fourth phase will be announced during the next phase.

Dr. Jahaf stressed the importance of the project in alleviating the financial burdens and suffering of patients as a result of the repercussions of holding oil derivatives ships… praising the efforts of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs and the support of UNEPS to implement the project.

The head of the Al-Thawra Hospital Authority expressed his aspiration to increase the support of UNEPS to implement more projects in the hospital within the third and fourth phases.

The opening was attended by Dr. Khaldoun Mohamed, Program Officer at the UNEPs Project Services Office, and Eng. Khaled Baslameh, Project Officer.
