Hamed meets the Secretary General of NRC, stresses the implementation of sustainable projects


The Director of the presidency office of the Republic, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SCMCHA , Ahmed Hamed ,met today with secretary-general of the NRC Jan Egeland.

The meeting, which was attended by The Secretary-General of SCMCHA Abdul Mohsen Tawoos, discussed the relations of cooperation between Yemen and NRC on the humanitarian field in the exceptional circumstances that Yemen is going through as a result of ongoing aggression and blockade.

The meeting discussed the mechanisms for providing assistance in accordance with humanitarian standards and according to the reality of the actual need in the field.

At the meeting, the Director of the Presidential Office appreciated NRC’s efforts in the field of humanitarian work. He also appreciated the DRC’s position on the Trump administration’s designation of Ansar Allah as FTO , which demonstrates the council’s awareness and keenness on the course of humanitarian work in Yemen.

He confirmed the importance of joint coordination with SCMCHA and discussing the problems to find appropriate solutions to the benefit of providing assistance and alleviating the humanitarian suffering caused by the coalition of aggression against Yemen.

He also stressed the importance of avoiding the mistakes of the past period and the shortcomings and use them to develop the work during the current year.

Hamed indicated to the problems facing WFP when distributing food aid from damage and high transport prices, as well as damaged food imported and huge amounts paid by some organizations in supplementary foods, while this can be avoided by providing cash assistance to ensure that aids reach their beneficiaries at the lowest costs and invest surplus cost in other service projects by supporting the health, education, water and humanitarian sectors.

Hamed stressed the importance of moving from providing emergency assistance to implementing development and sustainable projects that will improve the humanitarian and economic situation in Yemen.

Secretary-General of SCMCHA, Tawoos ,said the Council is working hard to facilitate the work of humanitarian organizations working in Yemen in accordance with humanitarian standards and in accordance with the laws, principles and values of society in Yemen as well as provide a real and useful service to the beneficiaries.

He confirmed the council’s efforts to speed up the signing of agreements and to move forward with the implementation of projects that serve humanitarian work in Yemen.

For his part, the Secretary-General of NRC appreciated positive efforts of SCMCHA to facilitate the work of humanitarian organizations in Yemen.

He added that NRC is seeking to improve its level of work according to the need in Yemen.
He pointed out that the council’s message to the donors meeting included points related to providing and developing shelter for IDPs and providing emergency assistance according to need , topics related to fishermen and the need to transfer alternative energy sources and other points.

Egeland expressed the NRC’s aspiration to achieve these points in coordination with SCMCHA in accordance with the standards and obligations of humanitarian work and respect for the laws, principles and values of Yemeni society.

The meeting was attended by the Heads of The International Cooperation Departments and The Single Window of the Council, Mana’a Al-Asal, Hamza Al-Mukhtar and NRC’s Country Director Mohammed Abdi.
