Inspect the conditions of inmates and juveniles in the central reformatory in Sana’a.

Members of the Health, Population, Rights and Freedoms Committees and civil society organizations of the Shura Council and a number of members of the Shura Council and the acting head of the Planning and Programs Department of supreme Council and International Coope Eng. Mutahar Zaid Mutahar, inspected today the conditions of inmates and juveniles in the correctional facility Central in capital.

Visitors were briefed on the legal conditions of detention of inmates and juveniles, the availability of their needs and compliance with the decisions of the High Ministerial Committee for the Control of Epidemics related to prisons including attention to hygiene, the provision of sterile and disinfectant savoics and precautionary measures to confront Corona.

Dr. Fikri Salem, chairman of the Health and Population Committee of the Shura Council, and members of the Council pointed out the importance of deciding on the issues of prisoners and the displaced for their own safety.

They pointed out the importance of identifying the needs of sterilization and medical supplies in all central correctional facilities in the provinces. They stressed the importance of international humanitarian and relief organizations playing their part in supporting the efforts to confront Corona.

The Secretary General of the Shura Council, Bilal al-Hakim, stressed the importance of joining official and popular efforts of taking precautionary measures to counter the coronavirus.

He pointed out the importance of raising community awareness and health education with precautionary measures and health guidelines to tackle the virus.

Brig. Gen. Mohammed al-Abali, undersecretary of the Rehabilitation Department, reviewed the precautionary measures carried out by the department as part of efforts to counter the coronavirus.

He called on the judiciary to act quickly to implement the sentences in accordance with the judicial law, thereby reducing the concentration of inmates in correctional facilities.

The Director of Human Rights at the Ministry of Interior, Brig. Gen. Abdullah al-Hakim, praised the cooperation of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and international cooperation in providing sterile and preventive spraying supplies from epidemics to the secretariat’s central correctional facility.

Brig. Gen. Mohammed al-Mahati, director of the central corrections department at the secretariat, stressed the importance of equipping the isolation rooms in a typical manner with the correctional facility, in case of any emergency.

For his part, the acting head of the planning and programs department of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs pointed out that the field landing with a number of members of the Shura Council for the Central Reform of the Secretariat comes within the framework of inspecting the conditions of the inmates and the needs of the correctional institution.

He stressed the continued coordination between the Council and international organizations working to provide the necessary needs in support of the response to the COVID-19.
