Discussion of humanitarian and health interventions to support precautionary measures to confront Corona.

A meeting was held inprecautionary Sana’a today with Minister of Health and Population Taha al-Mutawakel, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation Abdul Mohsen Tawoos and OCHA Director Aydin O’Leary.

The meeting was attended by the head of the Department of International Cooperation, Maana al-Asal, the head of the single -window sector Hamza al-Mukhtar, and the director of the General Secretariat of the Council in Hodeidah, Jaber al-Razhi, discussed humanitarian and health interventions that should be presented urgently in light of the existing work and precautionary steps to confront Coronavirus.

The meeting reviewed the most important needs required to provide quarantine centers in Yemeni ports and the role of the World Health Organization (WHO) towards those returning to Yemeni territory who are subject to quarantine to ensure that they are free of the coronavirus.

At the meeting, the Minister of Health explained that WHO interventions in this stage and with regard to actions taken to address Corona were limited and inadequate. He called for more efforts and support to confront the Coronavirus and prevent its entry into Yemen.

He reiterated that Yemen is free of the coronavirus. “All precautions must be taken in order to maintain this achievement by strengthening precautionary steps that will raise health awareness so that Yemen remains protected from exposure to this virus,” he said.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs stressed the importance of provide the necessary support for returnees who are in the ports and subject to precautionary measures by international organizations, especially the World Health Organization (WHO) that concerned with providing support to facethe coronavirus.

The meeting was seen as informing organizations of the dangers of the Coronavirus to take precautionary measures to confront it as well as carrying responsibility to carry out the moral and humanitarian duty under the circumstances of the aggression and siege that the Yemeni people have been going through for five years.
