Al-Hamli calls on organizations to quickly and urgently intervene to address flood damage in affected governorates.

The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, Ibrahim Al-Hamli, called today on the United Nations, international and local organizations to quickly intervene urgently to confront the damage caused by floods in the affected governorates.

The Secretary-General of SCMCHA pointed out the importance of responding to disasters by providing urgent interventions in the form of food, shelter and cash assistance and enhancing the ability of civil defense to respond.

This came during a meeting of the Secretary-General of SCMCHA with the United Nations Resident Coordinator – Humanitarian Coordinator Julien Harneis, to discuss the damage caused by floods and urgent humanitarian interventions for those affected by floods.

Al-Hamli reviewed, in the meeting attended by the Director of OCHA – in Yemen, Marcus Verney, the human and material losses and damage caused by floods in a number of governorates, including Al-Hodeidah, Hajjah and Taiz.

He called on the United Nations, international and local organizations to quickly provide relief and shelter materials to the affected families, in coordination with SCMCHA and its branches in the governorates.
He confirmed the importance of everyone assuming responsibility for providing humanitarian assistance to the affected citizens in all governorates.

Al Hamli also indicated the importance of responding to disasters by providing urgent interventions in the form of food, shelter and cash assistance and enhancing the ability of civil defense to respond.

He pointed out the importance to expedite the provision of the necessary relief assistance to those affected by the torrential rains that the country is witnessing these days, declaring a state of emergency.
He explained that there are hundreds of families affected by the torrential rains.

For his part, the UN Coordinator confirmed that he will hold an urgent meeting with the UN organizations to present the damage, mobilize interventions and prepare what assistance can be provided.

The meeting was attended by the Director General of Emergencies and Displacement, Naji Azman, the Director General of UN Organizations, Turki Jamil, the Director General of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mohammed Al-Razzaq, the Representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Inshirah Ahmed, the Deputy Representative for Operations at UNICEF, Lana Kataw, and the Deputy Representative of the FAO, Kayo Takenoshita.
